Website Development

Custom websites and web applications built to load fast, rank well and keep working as you grow.

Most websites fail commercially long before they fail technically. They load slowly on the mid-range Android phone your customer actually owns, they bury the one action you want visitors to take, or they were built on a page builder that nobody can safely change eighteen months later. We build websites that avoid those specific outcomes.

Our work covers everything from a focused marketing site for a growing business through to a full web application with authentication, dashboards, payments and third-party integrations. The technology varies with the problem — what stays constant is that we write code your next developer can read, and we measure the result rather than asserting it.

Performance is a feature, not a final polish

Speed is treated as a requirement from the first commit, not something retrofitted the week before launch. That means server-rendering pages where it helps search visibility, shipping only the JavaScript a page genuinely needs, sizing and compressing images properly, and keeping third-party scripts on a short leash. Analytics tags and chat widgets are the most common cause of a site that scores well in the studio and badly in the field.

We benchmark against Core Web Vitals — Largest Contentful Paint, Interaction to Next Paint and Cumulative Layout Shift — because those are the metrics Google actually uses and the ones that correlate with people staying on the page. You get the numbers before and after, on throttled mobile hardware rather than a desktop connection.

Built so search engines can read it

A site that renders only after a large JavaScript bundle executes is a site that indexes unpredictably. We render meaningful HTML on the server, use a heading structure that reflects the actual document, write per-page titles and descriptions rather than repeating a template, and emit structured data where it earns a richer result in search.

The technical groundwork — canonical URLs, a real sitemap, sensible internal linking, correct status codes on moved pages — is unglamorous and it is where most sites quietly lose traffic. We handle it as part of the build rather than selling it back to you afterwards as an optimisation package.

Handover you can actually use

Every project ends with you owning the code, the hosting accounts and the domain. We do not hold infrastructure hostage as a retention strategy. You get a repository with a readable commit history, environment configuration documented, and a short written walkthrough of how to run, deploy and update the project.

Where a site needs regular content changes, we integrate a content management system so your team can publish without a developer in the loop. Choosing that CMS is a real decision with trade-offs around cost, hosting and editing experience, and we make the case for a specific option rather than defaulting to whatever we used last.

What you receive

  • Responsive website or web application, tested on real mobile hardware
  • Source code in a repository you own, with documented setup and deploy steps
  • Core Web Vitals benchmark report, before and after
  • Technical SEO foundation: sitemap, canonicals, structured data, metadata
  • CMS integration where content changes frequently
  • Post-launch support window for defects

How we work

Most website projects run four to twelve weeks depending on page count and how much custom application logic is involved. We scope in writing before starting, and changes to scope are priced openly rather than absorbed silently and rushed.

Frequently asked questions

Do I own the code when the project ends?

Yes. The repository, the hosting accounts and the domain are yours, transferred at handover. You are free to take the project to another developer at any point without asking us for permission or access.

Can you work with our existing site instead of rebuilding it?

Often, yes. If the underlying stack is sound we would usually rather fix performance, accessibility and SEO problems in place than argue for a rebuild you do not need. We will tell you honestly when a codebase is genuinely past the point where incremental work pays off.

What does the site cost to run after launch?

It depends on traffic and whether the project needs a database or background processing. A marketing site typically runs on hosting that costs very little at low traffic. We give you the expected monthly figure during scoping so it is not a surprise later.
